About Us
Robert Wander is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer (T149642) and Licensed Massage Therapist (OH: 33.010323 T-Z).  He has over ten years experience doing sports, treatment, geriatric, pregnancy, relaxation, and on-site & event massage.  Mr. Wander was an active member of the AMTA-Washington and AMTA-Ohio Sports Massage Teams (and recipient of the Ohio team's Iron Hands Award in 2006) for 3 years each.  He has completed classes and 2 clinical internships with Aaron Mattes, MS, RKT, LMT and has assisted him in teaching AIS classes in the US and Canada since 2005.

Mr. Wander graduated from the 1,000 hour program at Seattle’s Brenneke School of Massage (a COMTA accredited school) with emphasis on “Therapies for Treatment of Injuries, Specific Conditions, and Athletes.”  He opened an on-site massage business while in massage school using independent contractors.  He then worked as an independent practitioner providing treatment, sports, pregnancy, geriatric, and seated massage at his office and on-site at client's residences, health clubs, businesses, and retirement facilities.  His clients included Holland America Line, Eddie Bauer, and Northaven I & II (retirement home and assisted living facility).

Since returning to Ohio four years ago, Mr. Wander has worked as an independent, fee-for-service practitioner providing similar services, but with a focus on The Mattes Method of Active Isolated Stretching and Strengthening.  Additionally, he has conducted classes and seminars on AIS at The Athletic Club of Columbus and other locations.

Mr. Wander recently became Certified as a Senior Fitness Training Specialist by The American Academy of Health and Fitness.  This is the only senior fitness certification approve by all major personal training, sports nutrition, group fitness certification organizations and BOC for athletic training.

Company Philosophy

The Holy Grail of bodywork is a technique that works for nearly every condition, produces significant improvement in the client with minimal discomfort or tissue trauma, and doesn't take a toll on the practitioner.  The techniques would need to be wholistic in approach, addressing the body as an integrated whole versus targeting isolated areas and "chasing the pain."  They should restore 'balance' to the body.  And they should enable and encourage clients to maintain themselves.

AIS is gentle, wholistic, and profound.  It is based on his detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology and it respects basic physiologic principals.  It actively involves the client in his own healing process and enables and empowers the client to maintain himself.

Stretching Ohio.com believes in the value of massage, but it is only part of the answer.  For lasting results, muscle imbalances must also be addressed.  I enjoy doing many forms of massage and get positive results (and feedback).  For those wanting profound change, I get better results for my clients by performing and teaching The Mattes Method of Active Isolated Stretching and Active Isolated Strengthening.  Without the strengthening component, the aches and pains recur.  The focus of this web site is restoring balance to the body, thus reducing injuries and stress while improving performance.  "Performance goes up as injuries go down.  Realize your potential."sm
